Saturday, June 06, 2026 - 08:00 am to 10:00 amSOUTH THOMASTON — "Summer marks the return of the bobolinks, who are known not only for their truly impressive migration, but their unique song," said Georges River Land Trust, in a news release.
Learn more about these birds at Breakfast and Bobolinks, hosted by Georges River Land Trust, Saturday, June 6, from 8 - 10 a.m., at Riverview Hayfields Preserve in South Thomaston. The preserve is home to several pairs of breeding bobolinks, who rely on the grassland habitats found at places like Riverview Hayfields, according to GRLT.
Author, photographer, and naturalist Don Reimer will lead the program, providing information about the bobolinks and other grassland bird species who nest along Maine’s coast each summer.
Bagels, fruit, pastries, and coffee will be available as participants watch and listen for the bobolinks. The group will walk about 0.3-miles from the parking lot to the gazebo along a mowed, mostly flat path.
This event is free and open to all ages, but space is limited. Please register at georgesriver.org/events. Contact maeve@grlt.org with questions.
"Georges River Land Trust is thankful to Ag Allies for helping monitor the nesting bobolinks at Riverview Hayfields Preserve," said GRLT.
